Getting his first drumset at the age of 14 his talent flew off the charts from there. He even played "until his hands felt they were going to fall off." When he was 18 he played in a band called The Tabbs, who wore off colored mustard jackets while on stage. Then shortly playing in The Mudd and started into heavy drugs. When their lead singer Tommy G died of kidney failure Randy blamed it on heroin addiction and shyed away from drugs remaining clean. His first rock band was the Wumblies, originally went by Cottonmouth, and moved to Espanola playing album cover songs. He worked at many gigs as he could to stay afloat, like proms and night clubs.
They were doing okay until they moved to Denver, Colorado and fell apart in 1980.

But during the "New Tattoo" album tour, Randy became seriously ill and went to the hospitial right after their last show. Collasping when entering the hospitial doctors took him in and discovered a duodenal ulcer. They did emergency surgery that saved his life. And soon after recovering from his surgery he got a lump in his jaw that lead to Squamous cell Carcinoma, which is a common cancer that can be fatall if not treated early on. In the mid-2001 his cancer went into a remisson and had planned to join Ozzy's solo band. He eventually switched on and off of bands and a few months later the cancer came back.Randy died of cancer on March 26, 2002, he was 51 years old, and before his death he was still working with Ozzy Osbourne and Mike Inez of Alice in chains on making a new band and only needed to hire a singer.
