Mötley Crüe
Started by Nikki and Tommy Lee, the drummer, Mötley Crüe was thier new start. Mick Mars, the lead guitarist joined after Sixx met him in a liquor store, and later Vince Neil, the singer, as well. This officially formed the band on Jan. 17, 1981. They sold over 72 million albums world wide. Living as hard rockers do all members have had many law violations, time in jail, and hard uses of alcohol and drugs. The spelling of the unique name and the unusual two sets of umlauts came from the German beer they were frinking at the time. Special huh?
Their genre mix of heavy metal and glam rock found a rapid succession in the United States. The were known for their outrageous clothing, extremely high- heeled boots, and heavy make - up, which was easily ressembled from the american rock band Kiss.
Always seeming rub shoulders with the law, they did get get into some trouble. While the "Crüesing Through Canada Tour of '82," there were a few incidents. At Edmonton International Airport for wearin their spiked stage clothing through Customs because they were considered 'dangerous weapons', and eventually they had the confiscated materials destroyed. Another was making a 'bomb threat' at a band who was currently playing at the Scandals Disco in Edmonton. Once in Canada, a rock magazine explains that they became 'banned for life' from a city, when Lee threw a TV from the upper story window of the Sheraton Caravan Hotel.
But acting reckless and uncaring does pay its price. In 1984, Neil crashed is car in an head-on collision, with his friend Nicholas "razzle" Dingley, a drummer from Hanoi Rocks. Even though Neil walked away, his friend Nicholas did not. Neil was charged with DUI and Vehicular manslaughter, also sentenced to 30 days in jail. 18 days later Neil walked away and later the band sold their box sets entitled "Music to Crash Your Car Too."
